Applied Informatics
The Applied Informatics program differs from most informatics doctoral programs in the Czech Republic by closely integrating the technological aspect of information systems with managerial-organizational and social perspectives. Supervisors, often heads of research groups from departments associated with application-oriented competence centers, guide doctoral students to participate in various basic and applied research projects, frequently involving international partners. Doctoral students in the Applied Informatics program have their own off-site seminar called the Applied Informatics PhD Meetup (AIPM). Additionally, shorter joint seminars are organized directly at the faculty, often with the participation of international guests.
Dissertation Topics
Below is the complete list of dissertation topics offered by supervisors, organized by department, for the academic year 2024/25. Each department also includes a list of approved consultants who are currently involved in supervising some dissertations.
For topics with a link, a more detailed description is available on the ResearchJobs.cz portal. Topics without a link are generally broader areas within which a specific topic can be specified in collaboration with the proposed supervisor based on your interests. If you are unsure about your choice or would like to propose your own topic, please do not hesitate to contact the supervisor.

Study Subjects
The faculty offers for the AI doctoral program elective subjects in two groups: thematic and propaedeutic subjects. From the thematic elective subjects, doctoral students must complete at least one from their “home” department and at least one from another “foreign” department. Doctoral students enrolled in KME must complete at least two thematic elective subjects. This ensures thematic coherence (the study is fully interdisciplinary, not atomized by departments) while providing students with an appropriate degree of freedom to choose subjects closely related to their research focus.
As a fourth, or additional subject, students have the option to choose one of the propaedeutic elective subjects listed by FIS, another thematic elective subject listed by FIS, or one of the subjects listed by other faculties of VŠE.
Doctoral Board and Appointed Committees
The Doctoral Board monitors and evaluates the study within the doctoral study program. The chairperson of the Doctoral Board is the guarantor of the doctoral study program. The Doctoral Board consists of at least seven members, out of which at least two are not employees of the University of Economics, Prague (VŠE). The Doctoral Board meets at least once per academic year, with meetings chaired by the chairperson of the Doctoral Board.
